Slingshots
in Australia
BCF, Bunnings, Anaconda, Kmart, eBay — the honest verdict on every place Australians search for slingshots, and where to actually find the real thing.
If you've searched for slingshots at your local sporting goods store, you've probably come up empty. You're not alone — thousands of Australians search for slingshots at BCF, Bunnings, Anaconda, and Kmart every month, only to find they either don't stock them at all or carry nothing beyond a basic toy. Here's the honest breakdown of each retailer so you know exactly what to expect.
BCF (Boating Camping Fishing) is one of Australia's biggest outdoor and sporting goods chains, so it makes sense that people search for slingshots there. Unfortunately, BCF does not stock slingshots as part of their regular inventory.
Some BCF stores may occasionally carry a basic tube-style shanghai — the old-fashioned Y-frame with surgical tubing — but these are inconsistent finds and a far cry from modern precision slingshots. You won't find brands like SimpleShot, SniperSling, or Wasp at BCF, and they don't carry flat band setups, replacement slingshot rubbers, or proper slingshot accessories.
If you're specifically after slingshot bands or replacement rubber, BCF isn't the place to look. Purpose-made slingshot bands — whether flat bands or looped tubes — are a specialist item you'll need to source from a dedicated slingshot retailer.
Bunnings is a hardware store, not a sporting goods retailer, so it's no surprise they don't sell slingshot frames. However, Bunnings does come up in searches for "slingshot rubber" for a good reason — they stock latex and rubber tubing in their plumbing section.
This generic latex tube can work as slingshot band material in a pinch, but it's not designed for the purpose. It's typically thicker-walled tubing meant for plumbing or industrial use, which means inconsistent draw weight, poor longevity, and slower shot speed compared to purpose-made slingshot bands.
Our slingshot bands collection includes flat bands, looped tubes, and band sets specifically made for slingshot performance — a genuine upgrade over anything you'll find in the plumbing aisle.
Anaconda is another major Australian outdoor and camping retailer, and like BCF, people naturally expect to find slingshots on the shelves. The reality is the same — Anaconda does not carry quality slingshots in their regular range.
You might stumble across a cheap tube-band shanghai at an Anaconda store, but it won't be a modern slingshot with flat bands, an ergonomic grip, or any of the features that make a real difference to accuracy and comfort. For a proper slingshot — one with a well-designed frame, quality band attachment, and genuine shooting performance — you'll need to look beyond the big-box outdoor stores.
Kmart occasionally stocks toy-grade slingshots, typically in the outdoor toys or party section. These are exactly what they sound like — plastic frames with weak elastic, designed as novelty items rather than functional slingshots.
If you're buying a slingshot for target shooting, pest control, or as a genuine outdoor tool, Kmart's toy offerings won't cut it. They lack the build quality, band strength, and ergonomic design needed for consistent accuracy. A toy slingshot can be fun for kids under supervision, but it's not a serious piece of kit.
Australia's major retailers simply don't cater to slingshot enthusiasts. That's exactly why Slingshots Australia exists.
eBay does have slingshots listed, and it's one of the first places many Australians look. The selection is mostly cheap imports — mass-produced frames with inconsistent quality, poor band material, and no after-sales support.
What to Watch Out For
- Quality inconsistency: Photos often look better than the product. Band quality is usually poor, with short lifespans and inconsistent pull weights.
- No warranty or support: Most eBay slingshot sellers are overseas drop-shippers. If something breaks or arrives faulty, you're on your own.
- Legal risk: Some listings include wrist-braced models that may be classified as prohibited weapons in certain Australian states. Importing these can create serious legal problems.
You can find a functional slingshot on eBay, but you'll spend time sorting through low-quality listings and taking a gamble on what arrives. For the same price — or only slightly more — you can buy a known-brand slingshot from an Australian retailer with proper support.
Since mainstream physical retailers don't carry quality slingshots, online is genuinely the best option in Australia. Slingshots Australia carries a curated range of premium brands including SimpleShot, SniperSling, and Wasp — the same names trusted by competitive shooters and slingshot enthusiasts globally.
